About me
„The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague.” – Edgar Allan Poe
Welcome, wandering Murmurers!
I'm Nita, the dreamer of „The Copper Murmur". I'm a small artist from middle Europe, Hungary.
The main theme of my creations is „passing away”. We are all concerned with the idea of this topic at some level, however ususally people do not like to think about it because they are afraid of the unknown. Still, many try to make friends with the fact that one day our bodies will return to the earth and a new life will be born from it under the guise of spirituality and other different methods, preparing themselves for the inevitable. It is an eternal cycle and we can only control that part of how we approach it.
As for me, I have always adored nature, and at the same time, the melancholic ache of passing. I combine these two important themes through my works.
I only work with organic remains that life and nature itself left behind, and then, as a sign of respect, I wrap them in copper robes and present them as jewelry or other accessories. The uniqueness of my creations is that the original material lies under the pure copper layers, for example a simple tree leaf, a dead insect or bug, or perhaps a bone or other animal remains. I combine these treasures with crystals, beads, love and humility.
✧ The technique I use ✧
I seal the organic materials with pure copper using a special electrochemical process called ,,electroforming". To put it simply, ,,I make copper grow onto things". This is a very slow, time-consuming process, each piece soaks for days in the electrolyte designed for this, so the preferred, sturdy thickness of copper grows onto the surface with the help of electricity. If I include preparation and finishing process, sometimes it can take several weeks before a piece is completely finished, depending on the size, accessibility and vulnerability of the raw material.
✧ Source of raw materials ✧
I prefer to work with bones and other animal remains, but I strictly only use parts or the whole of a creature that is already left dead. As I mentioned, my goal is to commemorate those now became empty shells called bodies. My main source of material is nature itself as a result of trips and walks in forests (or in the case of bugs and insects, just simply walking around in the neighborhood), but I have a lot of supportive friends and lovely followers who also find pieces while walking in nature, living far from the city, and they entrust the remains to me so that I can create a worthy memorial to it. Finally, I get the parts of a dead animal by buying from flea markets, online antiques marketplaces (e.g. antlers) or, last but not least, as the remaining ,,byproduct" of legal hunters of unprotected species.
In all cases, I am the one who cleans and process the remains or bones I find.
✧ Additional materials, general style ✧
The main character of my creations is always the animal or plant-based remains hidden under the copper layers. Absolutely I am the one, who comes up with the setting inspired by many things: music, aesthetic, places, folklore and folk-creatures, oddities, movies, games, poems etc. In the event of an unique request, I work together with the customer to create the desired piece of jewelry or accessory. I use minerals, pearls, all kinds of textiles and additional materials (for example, I build certain parts with polymer clay), and I like to present the end result in Dark Academia, Gothic or Victorian elegance.
✧ Final thoughts ✧
The most important thing in my work is to treat the remains of the deceased creature with the greatest possible humility and care, so the creation itself is a slow, deliberate process for me. I would like to convey the feeling that surrounded me at the moment when I worked with them and I hope that you too would be touched by the eternal Murmur of an immortalized piece of nature, enclosed under layers of copper.
